Carry-On Luggage for Low-Cost Airlines
If you have already purchased a flight ticket and are eager to start packing your suitcase, you should pause for a moment and consider what kind of luggage you actually want and can take with you. Each airline sets its own rules regarding the maximum quantity, weight, and dimensions of both carry-on and checked luggage. It is worth familiarizing yourself with these rules in advance, especially those concerning carry-on suitcases, to avoid unpleasant situations at the airport.
Carry-On Luggage vs. Checked Luggage
Before looking at the sizes of carry-on luggage for different airlines, let's briefly review the two main types of luggage you can take on a trip. The primary type is carry-on luggage, which must fit under the seat or in the overhead compartment above the passengers. This is luggage that is not checked in. For this type of luggage, it is important to pay attention to the differences between airlines, as they can vary by just a few centimeters. This can be decisive when choosing the right carry-on suitcase. If you plan a longer trip, you will likely need to bring more items with you, which means a larger suitcase or even several suitcases. This additional luggage must be checked in and must comply with the airline’s weight restrictions.
Carry-On Luggage with Ryanair
According to Ryanair’s baggage policy effective from November 1, 2018, there are two types of carry-on luggage. The first is free – a small bag that you can bring on board. It must fit under the seat and have dimensions no larger than 40 x 20 x 25 cm. There is no weight limit for this type of luggage.
The other type is the standard carry-on luggage, which must measure 55 x 40 x 20 cm and have a maximum weight of 10 kg. For this luggage, you must purchase a ticket with priority boarding. After buying this ticket, you can bring two carry-on bags – a small bag and a carry-on suitcase.
Carry-On Luggage with Wizzair
Wizzair has a similar policy to Ryanair. The dimensions of the free small carry-on bag, which must fit under the seat, are 40 x 30 x 20 cm. However, in this case, there is a weight limit of up to 10 kg.
Additionally, if you pay for the Wizz Priority service, you can bring an extra wheeled suitcase with a maximum weight of 10 kg and dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
Carry-On Luggage with EasyJet
EasyJet allows you to bring a carry-on suitcase free of charge with dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25 cm, including handles and wheels. There is no specified weight limit, but the passenger must be able to place it on the overhead luggage rack by themselves.
Moreover, passengers who have purchased one of the special fares can also bring a small bag measuring 45 x 36 x 20 cm. The weight requirements are similar to those for carry-on suitcases.
Carry-On Luggage with AirAsia
This Asian low-cost airline allows passengers to bring two pieces of carry-on luggage, provided they meet certain conditions. First, the carry-on suitcase cannot exceed dimensions of 56 x 36 x 23 cm. Additionally, you can bring a small bag or laptop bag with maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 10 cm. It is very important that the total weight of both pieces does not exceed 7 kg.
All these airlines also allow you to check luggage in the cargo hold, but this involves registration and additional fees.
