Winter holidays in the tropics - how to pack for a long vacation?
In winter, we usually decide to go skiing or snowboarding in mountain resorts. However, exotic, warm destinations are becoming increasingly popular among travelers. Thailand, the Philippines, Zanzibar, or the Dominican Republic. Winter is the perfect time to visit these countries! So how do you pack for a long vacation? We offer some tips in today’s post!
Let’s start with the fact that packing should not be left to the last minute. Once you have chosen your destination and travel purpose, check the weather there and what might surprise you. It’s worth preparing for different circumstances. Asian countries tend to have cooler northern or mountainous regions, while the coastal areas will be bathed in sunshine.
What should you pack in?
The first dilemma will be what to pack in. Should you take a backpack or choose a suitcase? And if a suitcase, what kind – soft or hard? Large or medium? Before deciding, it’s worth checking what restrictions apply due to the airline. Does your purchased plane ticket or travel package include checked baggage, and if so, what dimensions and weight should it meet? This knowledge will help you decide what luggage to bring. Each carrier will also offer carry-on luggage, which can be used to pack a few essential items you want to keep with you, such as electronic equipment – laptop, camera, power bank, chargers, or a few basic small items in case your main luggage gets lost at the airport and doesn’t arrive at the destination with you.
What must be in the suitcase?
It all depends on the destination you chose and the weather there. Thinking about holidays in the tropics, everyone should bring:
- Short-sleeve or sleeveless shirts
- Shorts
- Dresses
- Swimsuit
- Flip-flops
- A sufficient amount of underwear
- One warmer sweater or sweatshirt
- Rain jacket
- Long pants – preferably linen or cotton
- Sandals
- One more pair of comfortable shoes
- Hat
- Sunglasses
The amount of items is up to you. It depends on how long the trip will be. Before packing, it’s worth laying out all the clothes on the bed and matching them into sets. This will definitely make the final decision easier and allow you to skip, for example, a shirt that doesn’t match the chosen shorts or pants. When packing, remember to roll your clothes. This will not only save space in your suitcase but also ensure they arrive unwrinkled.
Cosmetics bag – a must-have for every woman
Which woman wouldn’t want to bring her favorite cosmetics? A cosmetics bag is definitely one of the most important items every female traveler will remember. What should be in a woman’s cosmetics bag? Besides a toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, makeup and makeup remover sets, hygiene accessories, don’t forget to pack lip balm (scorching sun equals chapped lips), insect spray (especially useful during hikes or other inland activities), wet wipes, and antibacterial hand gel.
If you have enough space, also pack essential medications in your cosmetics bag. Tropical holidays have their own rules, so it’s worth bringing medicines that might be useful for unusual ailments. Don’t forget allergy, pain relief, menstrual medications, or electrolytes. It’s good to have tablets for headaches, sore throat, stomach upset, and something for insect bites. Something for sunburns and plasters for abrasions might come in handy. Sunscreen with the appropriate UV filter is also a basic product in every cosmetics bag.
What else should you remember?
Make sure you have all your documents with you, such as passport, driver’s license, plane tickets, and/or printed boarding passes. Documents should be organized and secured. It’s worth making a copy of your passport and storing it in a different place than the original documents. Remember not to pack liquids exceeding 100 ml in your carry-on luggage. Also, do not bring sharp objects – scissors, pocket knife, or corkscrew should be packed in checked luggage. This way, you will avoid delays at security checkpoints.
