Christmas gifts - luggage for many journeys

This price range is where a gift stops being an extra and becomes the main luggage for a holiday. It covers a medium suitcase for a week away, a cabin suitcase with real personality or a large bag that handles both a weekend out of town and a business trip. These are Christmas gifts for people who love being on the move and appreciate things designed with travel in mind.

Gifts for travellers in this price range - what to choose?

Medium suitcase for a week's holiday

A medium suitcase is the most popular size for a holiday for two or a week in the mountains. It holds clothes for several days, shoes and toiletries, yet isn't too heavy to carry up stairs or lift into the car boot. In this range you'll find hard-shell suitcases made of lightweight materials, impact-resistant polypropylene models and suitcases with an expandable compartment for souvenirs.

A cabin suitcase with character

For someone who mostly flies with hand luggage, a cabin suitcase in a bold colour or with a print makes a brilliant gift. A suitcase with a graphic design stands out instantly on the carousel and in the overhead locker - and shows the gift was chosen with that particular person in mind.

Soft suitcase for those who value flexibility

A soft suitcase is a great choice for people who pack right to the limit and like to squeeze something extra into the outer pocket. The fabric sides give a little, so the luggage fits more easily into a tight space on the train or in the car.

Large weekend travel bag

A large travel bag is perfect for car trips, the gym and short business trips. In this range you'll find both an elegant model for office style and a sporty bag for an active weekend. Another great idea is a shopper bag with a detachable toiletry pouch and trolley sleeve - it replaces a handbag every day and slides onto the suitcase handle at the airport.

Backpack for flights and the city

A roomy expandable backpack can replace a cabin suitcase on a short trip and serves as a work backpack once you're back. For people who don't like carrying weight on their back, a backpack that converts into a wheeled bag is a great solution, and for minimalists - a lightweight packable backpack that unfolds into extra luggage.

What to look for when choosing a gift in this price range?

Start with how the recipient travels. If they fly low-cost airlines, go for a cabin suitcase or a flight backpack. If they go away for a week with the family, a medium suitcase is a better fit. For suitcases, check the shell material, how smoothly the wheels run and how comfortable the handle is; for bags - the number of pockets and how they're carried. Colour matters too: a light or patterned suitcase is easier to spot on the baggage carousel.

Which occasions are these gifts perfect for?

Gifts from this category most often end up under the Christmas tree, but they also work as a present for a birthday, anniversary, wedding or graduation. A suitcase is also a great gift for a new chapter - for someone heading off to university, starting a job that involves travel or planning their first trip together. As a group gift, it's an easy way to chip in for something truly useful.
